HOW TO STAY FOCUSED WHEN WORKING FROM HOME

Working from home is awesome and almost everyone’s dream until distraction gets in the way, this can be dangerous as it leads to been de-motivated with lower productivity.  This article will outline ways to remain focused, motivated and productive while working from home whether it’s an everyday occurrence or an occasional day away from the office.

  1. SET WORK HOURS

To have a focused day of work at home, then you need to act like you are not working from home. If you do not set boundaries on your personal time then there definitely will be none for your work life. Are there house chores or personal things you need to get done? Then ask yourself: If i was at work, would i have been able to get it done during that period? Your answer is most likely going to be no, then move those chores till after your close of work or better yet before you resume for the day. In setting these boundaries you will find out that you are structuring your day for success.

  1. HAVE A WORKSPACE

We all don’t have the luxury of having a room set aside as an office but still, no matter how small your apartment is, why not set aside a desk and chair for work-related activities and while you are in that space be determined that it is only work-related activities that will take place there. If a family member is at home during the day, ask them to treat that area as they would an office; meaning while you’re there, you’re not available.

  1. SET DEADLINES

Most people work best when they have deadlines. For example, if you feel you have so much time to complete a particular project, this might slow you down and eventually you get less done. Give yourself tight but realistic and reasonable deadlines in which to get specific projects or tasks done. This will help you get rid of distractions, giving you laser-focus as you work to meet your goals.

  1. STAY OFF SOCIAL MEDIA IF IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR JOB

Research has shown that social media actually helps improve work productivity but as interesting as this sound it shouldn’t be seen as confirmation that checking social media throughout the day increases your work output.  What it suggests is that using social media to assist in work-related activities increases productivity, checking out your friends’ timelines and pictures will definitely not do that.  If you feel you must use your social media then why not do that during the time set aside as your break time.

  1. RESIST THE URGE TO STAY IN HOUSE WEARS

The clothes you wear have an impact on your work performance and productivity. When you wear pajamas or some other casual clothes, it can feel like you’re not really working, leaving you more open to distractions. Research has shown that clothes have symbolic meaning for us, so whether it is professional office attire or a relaxing weekend dress, our brain tends to behave in a way consistent with that meaning.
